The Demons In Demon’s Souls, Deep Customization Options Explained

Demon's Souls

Note: Demon’s Souls is now out with the Asia Version in English language, I have written a little guide for the game here.

The latest information to come out of Boletaria, the kingdom in Demon’s Souls now shrouded with fog and scattered with demons thanks to its greedy king (more about the prologue here), are a couple of weird looking enemies, your potential allies, the stages, a couple of job classes and also the customization options that are available for your character.

The game will come out in Japan in five weeks’ time, SCET (Sony Computer Entertainment Taiwan) also confirmed that an Asia version with English/Chinese language will be out on the same day too. However, online server won’t be worldwide (if the game do gets US or Europe release later), so you’ll go demons hunting with Asian people only in future (based on report by Weekly Famitsu Taiwan).

Orokamono no Guuzou (Fools’ Idol)

Demon's Souls

A demon with four hands in the ‘Criminal Church’, always hold the Bible upside down and like to mock a former queen named Latria. Her main attacks are some deadly looking spells, which she launches from her finger nails.

Shinpansha (The Judge)

Demon's Souls

True to his name, this creepy monster judge if you’re a hero worthy of his time, by fighting you. Apparently, if you fail to prove yourself, he will slice you into pieces.

Philosopher Fureki

Demon's SoulsBesides the demons, you’ll meet other human too in your adventure. Philosopher Fureki is a former high ranking priest who is good with magics.

Dual Sword Hiyoru

Demon's SoulsOne of the two knights for King Boletaria but went missing after his master’s disappearance. Together with Philosopher Fureki, they will be the key people earlier in the game.

Stages

Place of Ritual (above left, click for larger view) and Tower of Latria (above right) are the two new stages revealed in this report. The former was a place to remember those who died in thunderstorm but it was destroyed hundreds of years ago. The latter appears to be a prison with plenty of zombies inside. However, I think the stages look too much like the other areas revealed so far.

Character Class

Two new job classes were introduced, they are Palace Knight (above left) and Magician (above right). The former is good with close combat and has higher defense but low in the wisdom attribute while the latter will come with a couple of magics for you to use from the get go but they are obviously low in defense. The other job classes revealed so far are Knights, Priest and Thief.

Character Making

Demon's SoulsDemon’s Souls also has its own character customization set-up, doesn’t look as sophisticated as the one in Shirokishi Monogatari: Inishie no Kodou but all the basic options are here.

Take Soul

Demon's SoulsPlayers are free to decide their characters’ ability growth by distributing ‘Souls’ earned during battles to any of the 24 types of abilities attached to a character. These include the usual attributes like HP, MP and Stamina to the more unique ones like Armors Weight and Bleeding. This ability distribution can only be done by going back to the place where you first started and talk to the lady who summoned your soul after you died (more details here).

Learn Magic

Demon's SoulsYou will also learn your magic skills at the same place by talking to Fureki’s student, who you need to save earlier in the game. Again, ‘Souls’ is needed in order to improve any of your magic skills.
